Alternate Testing

In cooperation and compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), AutoTechnician.org provides alternate testing in the form of a downloadable .PDF copy of the pre-qualification test and registration form or a mailed hard copy of the test and registration form to any test takers having a disability preventing them from taking the test on the Internet. All test takers requesting the alternate testing must complete the Application for Alternate testing Form, submit it and be . The alternate testing is provided free-of-charge. You will be however responsible for all shipping, postage and handling fees you may encounter to return the materials to AutoTechnician.org.

Testing Conditions
The testing environment is a self-policing one. Upon agreeing to the Terms of Use and Conditions, you must take the test yourself and without outside assistance from anyone. You are permitted to take the test at home, at work, or any place you will have access to the internet and email and a browser or screen reader device capable of rendering the test.

Those with disabilities requesting alternate testing may request a designated reader or scribe to assist while taking the test. Be sure to indicate the person’s name on your application form.

Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Policy

Introduction
AutoTechnician.org’s Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) policy was created to comply not only with the ADA, but also to provide information about AutoTechnician.org’s policy regarding a test candidate’s process for requesting alternate disability testing for the Member Directory pre-qualification test.

Avoid delays in decisions related to providing alternate testing for candidates with disabilities by providing us with all documentation requested on a timely basis.

ADA Compliance Areas
AutoTechnician.org has provided alternate testing to candidates with disabilities and is committed to compliance with the requirements of the *Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). AutoTechnician.org adopted the following guidelines for responding to requests for alternate testing accommodation:

  • Testing accommodation alternatives must be consistent with ADA requirements and appropriate and reasonable for the documented disability.
  • Our testing alternative must ensure fairness for all test candidates, both those seeking accommodations and those testing under standard conditions.
  • Accommodations must not result in an undue burden or fundamentally alter that which the test is designed to measure.
  • Disability documentation requested from you must be by qualified professionals and must provide evidence that the disability substantially limits you from taking the standard test.

Application Procedure

  1. All application form requests for alternate testing accommodations and accompanying documentation are reviewed by AutoTechnician.org. You may request the form sent to you by mail or download it here: ADA_application_form.pdf
  2. An AutoTechnician.org staff member determines if the submitted content and all included documentation are complete and relevant to the disability. If information is missing, we will request additional the information by mail, email, fax or telephone where possible.
  3. If the request appears complete, the alternate testing documents will be mailed to the test taker with further instructions.

Application Documentation Required
Qualified Diagnosticians:

  • A qualified professional whose credentials are appropriate to the disability.
  • The qualified professional’s name and title, place of business contact or any professional credentials must be clearly stated.

Confidentiality
All documentation submitted to AutoTechnician.org related to requests for alternate testing accommodations will remain private and confidential. The submitted information is never used for any other purpose but to determine the eligibility for alternate testing, nor will it be used within a profile listing in the Membership Directory.
