Supporters of the renewable fuels industry turned out en masse on Thursday, desperate for the federal government to change course after last month announcing a plan to lower the amount of biofuels that must be added to the fuel supply in 2014.

The average fuel economy of new trucks, cars, SUVs and vans sold in the United States during November rose 0.1 mpg from October, to 24.8 mpg, according to a monthly report from the University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute.
